20th Day Account Deletions: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Most online accounts at KU require an individual to be either actively enrolled or have an active staff/faculty appointment for the current semester. To continue services such as KU email (Exchange), personal web space or computer lab access, individuals must be active by the 20th day of classes.
Please note that the account deletions performed on the 20th day of classes does not delete your KU Online ID. Access to services such as Blackboard and Kyou portal (Grades, Finances, Enroll & Pay) continue. If you do not find the answer to your question below, please contact the IT Customer Service Center at 864-8080.

1. I just graduated from the university. I understand I am allowed to keep my KU email account?
This is not correct. KU email accounts are deleted for non-enrolled students at the beginning of the following fall or spring semester. You are highly encouraged to forward any important messages to a non-KU email account before you leave campus.
2. I want to save or move the KU email messages and contacts?
Individual messages or contacts you want to keep must be forwarded individually to a non-KU email account.
3. Can I put a forward on my KU email account?
You can put a forward on your account but this only remains active until the email account is deleted, when you are no longer enrolled or employed at KU.
4. My KU email address is on my resume, can I request an extension?
We strongly encourage you to obtain a non-KU email account (such as yahoo, hotmail or gmail) and provide this to prospective employers as soon as possible. Request to maintain a KU email account solely on the basis that the account is on resumes will not be approved.
5. The KU Alumni Association told me I could keep my KU email account.
As a graduate, you may contact the KU Alumni Association for permanent email forwarding which gives you an alias (username@kualumni.org). For more information They will need to contact the Alumni Office
6. I have an approved leave of absence for the current semester (medical, academic, or working). I need to keep my KU email account.
Approved leave of absence pertains only to your academic progress. If you are not enrolled in classes for the current semester, you are not eligible for email services. When you re-enroll you will continue to use the same KU Online ID and email address. Any email will have been deleted during your absence.
7. I am in the military and on deployment for the current semester.
Military deployments will not affect your email or online access. You must complete exit process managed by the University Registrar's Office. She would need to have the paperwork filed in that office to send the request to us.
8. I am participating in an internship or study abroad program with KU. Can I keep my email or other online services?
You may or may not be eligible for certain services depending on the internship or study abroad program. If the internship or study abroad program enrolls you in a KU course (KU class number), your services will continue. If you are not enrolled in a KU course, you are not eligible for email services. Your access to online services for Blackboard and Kyou portal (Grades, Finances, Enroll & Pay) will continue.
9. What services are provided to me if I become a student through KU Continuing Education (Independent Study)?
Neither credit or non-credit KUCE participants are eligible for a KU email account, personal webspace or access to computer labs. You are able to keep your access to online services such as Blackboard and Kyou portal (Grades, Finance, Enroll & Pay).
10. If I no longer have my KU email account but I am enrolled in KU Continuing Education courses, how do I access library databases?
Access to library databases is available only if you are enrolled in a for-credit course. Library databases are not available to the Non-credit continuing education student. Please contact KUCE for more information
11. I need to keep my access to Blackboard to finish an incomplete course.
Access to Blackboard and many other online services such as Kyou portal (Grades, Finances, Enroll & Pay) will continue because your KU Online ID remains active as long as the password is updated twice a year.
